HoHoTO – Have you got your ticket?

If you were there last year, you know what fun it was!  There was a great feeling in the air from everyone in the community about the cause that was being support – the Daily Food Bank of Toronto.  A good party, a good cause, and a great group of people coming out to celebrate the holiday spirit.

Echo Mobile is proud to be a Candy Cane sponsor of HoHoTO.

So, get out there and get your ticket before they’re sold out!  See you at the party!

On the road: NYC and Denver

James will be on the road this week, talking to other developers about iPhone development.

New York City: iPhone Application Development for Flash Developers
Another workshop, getting Flash developers familiar with making the switch to iPhone development.  This time it’s in New York City, and updated to talk about the iPhone SDK 3.  It’s not too late to register – use the code “echo” to get a 10% discount!  Much thanks to the Rich Media Institute for continuing to set up these workshops!  If you’d like some private training on iPhone development, or a workshop to be held in your city, please contact Echo Mobile.

After NYC I’ll be heading to Denver, CO, for 360|iDev.  This is a fantastic conference that talks about iPhone, iPhone, and more iPhone.  I’ll be giving a presentation on developing applications that use mapping technology.  I was at the last 360|iDev conference back in March, when it was in San Jose.  I had a great time presenting on iPhone development for Flash developers, and was glad when John and Tom asked me to come back.

If you find yourself at either one of these events, be sure to stop and say!

FITC:Mobile – Toronto’s Mobile Industry is in full effect!

I’ve just finished conducting my workshop on Introduction to iPhone SDK for Flash Developers for FITC:Mobile.  It was a sold-out audience with room full of Mac laptops.  FITC:Mobile features about 400 people converging onto the Toronto Convention Centre for 3 days to listen to over 30 presentations from speakers all over the world.  They’ll be talking about developing for all types of cell phones: iPhone, Blackberry, Android, and Pre, to name a few.

Along with the workshop that I did this morning, I’m also slated to give two presentations on Tuesday:  Dude, where’s my phone? (Mapping for mobile devices) and a one hour version of the iPhone workshop.

I’m sitting in on a workshop on Android development. The SDK is 175MB plus the Eclipse runtime – that’s tiny compared to the 2+ GB of the iPhone SDK.  So in addition to Objective-C, I suppose I’ll be (finally) getting into the Java world.  Gabe is next door listening to the PhoneGap workshop.  We’ll be comparing notes later on to figure out how to best take over the world.

FITC:Mobile is kicking off a series of events relating to the mobile industry that form Mobile Innovation Week.  Toronto’s mayor David Miller will be on hand on Tuesday morning to “proclaim September 12-16, 2009 MOBILEINNOVATIONWEEK”. http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Mobile-Innovation-Week-1043492.html

It’s great to see so much excitement surrounding mobile development.  If you’re at the conference, be sure to say “hi”!

Echo at IN09

James and Gabe will be at IN09 this week; we’re looking forward to it!

The Interactive Ontario mobile committee created a booklet called A Canadian Mobile Primer for Content Producers — Gabe contributed an article to it called A Primer on Smartphone Platforms and Applications, which is accompanied by Echo Mobile’s Table of Mobile Platform Happiness. We’ll link to them here once they’re online.
